Why touching feet of elders are said to best Karma

I am guessing many of you can relate to me, why growing up we were taught to always touch our elders' feet be it of parents, grandparents, teachers, or others in the family. It is a way to show our respect towards them and seek their blessings. We are taught to touch the feet of our elders during festivals, before starting any new work, etc as it is considered auspicious.

In a metaphysical sense, it's a symbolic way of saying that I, the soul bow down in front of you in respect of your wisdom, knowledge, experience, and age. In return, the other soul says that I am giving you all which I have accumulated in the form of my blessings.

Astrologically speaking 12th house represents feet, and hence for any relative 12th house from it will present its feet. For example, from someone's perspective, his or her father's or teachers' feet are his/her 8th house, and hence when you touch their feet, your 8th house will improve significantly over time. The same principle can be applied to any relative and you will find almost in all cases this will significantly improve your health, your life, your wealth, etc. All of which we aspire for our lives.

It also has scientific significance. In a layman term, our body is governed by positive and negative energies. When someone touches feet of others, these energies are combined and a complete circuit is formed. The one who touches feet is removing all the negative vibes in form ego and the one who blesses is displaying positive vibes in the form of compassion. Our nerves give this signal to the brain and the right energies are further flown in our bodies.

While this is more from Vedic Hindu mythology and astrology perspective, but in general I am guessing each belief and religion teaches us to give respect to our elders and other human beings. While methodology might be different, reasoning also might be different, but the core purpose and message remain the same.

So we can conclude that we should always respect our elders and others in life, even if we do this for mostly selfish reasons for improving our own lives and in the hope of fulling our wishes.
