Why it is important to pause and reflect

Today I am going to talk about why it is right to pause for some time and to process our intellect and emotions. Most of the leaders and philosophers tell us to relax and reflect. And rightly so.

We are living in probably one of the most uncertain times of the 21st century; still, there is no end in sight of the pandemic, and economic recovery is yet so slow. And 2020 is just half over; half of the year is to go. Many of us are feeling overwhelmed with a lot of information we are receiving through social media, news channels, friends, or families.

When we receive so much for the information without much time to process, then our brain gets slow and needs time to process that information. Have you ever realized that when we drive continuously for long, why we feel like sleeping? Or when we read a book for a long time, why we feel like sleeping? It happens because when the brain continuously gets loads of information, it needs time to process those, and hence it directs us to stop receiving any further information.

Similarly, our emotional system also needs to shut down for a while for us to function effectively on an emotional intelligence level. When we spend day and night posting and re-posting on social media, without giving time to deeply feel about anything, we are defending ourselves from something which we do not want to feel.

We need to pause for our emotions and intellectual processing for us to evolve. It will help us develop empathy, which is essential in testing times like this. We should also open to older processes of social bonding, where we used to share our emotions, feelings, the information we are getting with our friends, families, and loved ones without any worry of being judged. It's important to keep siphoning and recycling the emotional residues, just like any other waste.

So, it's OK to feel the feelings. It is required to pause and reflect. It's necessary to give us some time off from all media and social media to pause, reflect, rejuvenate, and re-energize ourselves for the future.
