Three stages of development in path of Spirituality

Today I am going to talk to what are different phases of Spiritual development. We can consider broadly there are three phases of Spiritual development in an individual. And different individuals can be in one of these stages depending on their soul's evolution, current life's circumstances and their Karma log allocated for this lifetime.

The very first stage can be considered as a pig in mud, who is in complete ignorance of the supremacy of spirit over matter. It is the most common stage, and most of us are at this stage. In this stage, a person is completely drenched in the Maya ( the mud) and is ignorant about life's purpose and spirit goal.

In the second stage of evolution, an individual is also attached to the materiality. While one's pleasure of the senses is dominant, yet one's intelligence is aroused, and one becomes aware of lost purity. At this stage, one becomes aware that one is completely drenched in the mud ( Maya), and one needs to come out of it. Here an individual's thirst for purity is very dominant. An individual starts searching for spirituality in a similar way as a person in mud will seek for pure water to cleanse one. I guess most of us who are reading this blog or any such articles are probably in this second stage of Spiritual development. We are aware that we are deeply involved in the worldly matter, but at that same time, we are enlightened of the fact that there is a world beyond; the world of spirit.

The third stage of Spiritual evolution is the most advanced stage, where the downpour of pure wisdom occurs. Usually, highly spiritual people reach this stage. One of the prominent example which I can give of this stage is Swami Vivekananda.

As we can now see, that path of spirituality is a continuous journey like traversing through a spectrum. It goes through three stages, and within each, we evolve gradually. Let's keep moving ahead on this journey.
