During these testing times of COVID 19, a donation is one such noble cause which most of us are doing. Either we are doing it by helping the needy known ones such as domestic help or by contributing to PM fund and NGOs, or by helping migrants, etc. All such good deeds are one of the great ways to show our gratitude to the universe. In today's blog, I would like to highlight how once can detach while being generous.
The story is from the time of Mahabharata. I am sure most of you have heard about Karna, one of the most renowned donors of all time. Once Arjuna was unhappy with Lord Krishna and asked my lord why you praise Karna so much when it comes to donation. What he does differently than us, the Pandavas?
To answer this question, Krishna turned two mountains into gold and asked both Arjuna and Karna to divide to nearby villagers equally. Arjuna called all the villagers and started digging and giving way the gold. As he proceeded he realized that the stock in the mountain is not reduced even by an inch. On the other hand, Karna asked a few villagers to come and meet him the next day. Karna told them to divine the entire wealth among themselves and instructing that Karna walked away on his journey forward. Arjuna realized the divine message which Lord Krishna wanted to give him.
What Arjuna was doing wrong is that he couldn't disassociate himself from the wealth and he wanted to become the provider. What Karna did was selfless. It was never his, he just wanted to fulfill the supreme lord's desire. He trusted people to divide among themselves without associating with it.
What do we understand of this story? To give is natural; to give is divine. But before we embark on the journey of giving, first we have to give away I, me and myself.
Stay happy, stay divine!! Keep helping others as per our capacity!!
