Newton's Third Law & Spirituality

Today I am going to talk about Newton's Third law and how it relates to Spirituality. But before that, let's first go through a story which I am sure most of you read it sometime.

We all know about great king Dashrath, the father of Lord Sri Ram. He has the mastery of shooting an arrow at a source of sound even with faintest of noise. Once upon a time, Dashrath went for hunting.

There was a boy whose name was Shravan Kumar, who was the very obedient son of his parents. His parents were old and sick, and they could neither see nor able to walk. They had their last desires to go to a pilgrimage. To fulfill his parent's last wish, he put them in two baskets on either side of his shoulders through a balance and started the journey. Once, when they were passing through a forest, his parents became very thirsty, and they asked for some water. Shravan Kumar went to bring some water. As soon as he started taking the water from a nearby pond, he got struck by an arrow. It was shot by no other than King Dashrath, who mistook Shravan for a deer drinking water.

As soon as Dashrath heard the voice of a boy crying, he immediately went there and started repenting what he has done. He asked Shravan who he was and what he was doing there. Shravan told him the entire story and requested him that if Dashrath could take care of his parents, he would be very grateful and could die in peace. Dashrath became very sad and embarrassed. He promised that we would take good care of Shravan's parents. He took water and came to Shravan's parents. His parents realized that the person is not his son but someone else. Then Dashrath narrated the whole story and asked for forgiveness. But devastated parents couldn't bear the news, and they said to Dashrath that they would choose death. But they cursed Dashrath that just how they are not with their son in their last times, similarly when Dashrath would die, his son won't be with him, and he would also die in "Putra Viyog". And then we all knew what happened when Lord Ram went to exile and how Dashrath died, as he couldn't bear Ram's absence.

This story has an important lesson for all of us. A great, wise king who was the father of Lord Ram, the preserver of the universe, was not spared by the lord of Karma. We are only mere mortals. But maybe we conveniently ignore this fact.

Now, coming to Newton's third law. What does it say? It says that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. It is so true in the case of Spirituality as well. At the end of the day, we are creating a Balance sheet of Karma with credits and debits. And hence it is definite to have results of those Karma in some way either good or bad depending on what is remaining after balancing out the good Karmas with bad ones.

Nowadays, we have apps for everything possible, but there is no app for Karma. No one wants to develop an app where we can track how much good Karma we are doing. How many good Karma we should do in a day or month or year? For example, there are apps of how many calories we are taking, which food has how many calories, what should be our ideal target diet based on our age, height, weight, etc. Something similar should be there to track our Karma.

So I would request you all to develop your Karma logs. See what are you doing? What is the surplus in your Karma balance sheet?

With this, I will leave you with a few lines of a song which I like a lot.

"Samay bada balwan re bhayia samay bada balwan

Samay ke aage hum to kya hai, jhuk jaye bahgwan"
