Do you like to follow a set pattern in life, in the job, or you someone who likes to change the way and adopts as per situations? Maybe this story will help you to change your perspective, even though partially!
Once upon a time, there was a great Saint. The Saint was a great teacher, philosopher and believed to have gotten divine powers. He has many pupils but one of them was wisest, his closest and whom he trusts a lot.
Once the saint and his entire team were passing through a village. After hearing about the saint and his great aura, a villager came to Saint and requested to accept him as his pupil. The Saint smiled and happily did so.
Many years passed by and now the villager was also a part of the Saints core pupil group. The Saint now started trusting and loving him as well, and he also became close to Saint. Again many years passed by and almost all education and rituals were completed for all the pupils, and everyone was very happy. But Saint's two favorite pupils, the first one and the village man were not so happy. When Saint asked for the reason, they told that they want to gain divine knowledge; they want to meet God. Once again Saint smiled and said, it will happen eventually.
Once again many years passed and the Saint didn't do much. One fine day, he asked both of them to him and gave one bird each. The Saint commanded them that as a "Guru Dakshina" you have to kill this bird and bring this to me. But the condition is that you have to kill the bird where no one can see you. Both the pupils took the bird and left to complete the task.
The first one, the favorite pupil went to a far place, but he was afraid that someone might see him. Then, he went to a river but again he was afraid that someone might see. Finally, he went to a cave and in absolute darkness he killed the bird and bring to his teacher. The saint smiled but didn't say anything.
Days and years passed by, but there was no news of the village man. He completely vanished. People almost forgot him then suddenly one day he came. He had become very pale, sick, and also restless. He also brought the bird back with him. The saint asked him where he was and why didn't he follow his teacher's order and given him "Guru Dakshina". The villager replied that my teacher, I really couldn't fulfill your wish, and I am really sorry about this. He said, wherever I went, I was finding that I am not alone; you were always with me, your teachings were always with me and moreover everywhere there was God. There was God in all the living and non-living things and also was in this bird. Hence, I couldn't find a place where I could have killed this little creature. So I am really sorry and to fulfill your wish, I can sacrifice my life.
The teacher embraced him emotionally and finally said, you have really understood the "real meaning of life". You have automatically got connected with God now.
This is the real difference between following the Standard Operating Procedure / set patterns vs understanding a situation and adapt. What would you prefer?
